Our office has social workers and @partnersforjustice client advocates EMBEDDED in the Public Defender Team. This week, our Social Worker Program Manager and Collaborative Courts Head Deputy presented at Partners for Justice’s Collaborative Defense Conference in Houston. They spoke on how to work with sexually inappropriate/hypersexual clients.
Last week, the Public Defender Ricardo García (@rdg_lapubdef) participated in a panel discussion for @dreamforce’s “Tech Driven Justice: Insights from Industry Leaders”. He, along with @lasuperiorcourt CEO David Slayton and @massgov Executive Office of Trial Courts Deputy Director Melanie Malcolm, discussed the digital transformation of justice and its impact on the criminal legal system.
Over the weekend, team Public Defender participated in @homeboyindustries 15th annual 5k run and community festival. All in all, the event raised close to $300,000!

However, it also highlights the ongoing disparities in the criminal legal system, where people of color face disproportionate impacts. We’re honoring our local communities by advocating for reforms that ensure fairness and justice for all communities.
Last week, the Public Defender Ricardo D. García (@rdg_lapubdef) returned to Santiago and Viña Del Mar, Chile 🇨🇱 for the annual public defense conference @uandresbello . He continues to share his expertise on US criminal law and defense with public defenders and law students internationally and is proud to strengthen this ongoing international partnership!
