The student Worker Program is designed to provide on-the-job training and experience while participants obtain their degree. We will help you to gain experience in building employment skills, establishing a professional network while continuing your education. This is temporary, part-time position, compensated on an hourly as-needed basis for up to 30 hours per week during instructional period.

Essential Job Functions

WHAT WILL I DO AS A STUDENT WORKER, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY? 

  • Performs a variety of basic information technology tasks, including installing and configuring desktop software products and hardware such as personal computers, printers, and modems.
  • Participates in the analysis, design, evaluation, testing, and implementation of computer systems.
  • Provides customer service through help desk support and interacts directly with network users.
  • Conducts hardware and software inventories.
  • Assists in performing programming tasks such as program design, program coding, and testing.
  • Assists in making simple modifications to web page contents.
  • Assists in preparing operating documentation.
  • Assists in conducting training sessions for staff on either a one-to-one basis, or in a group setting.
  • Assist users in identifying and resolving network, software, and hardware problems.
  • Assists in ad hoc report development.

 

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Current enrollment in an accredited college or community college with specialization in the Computer Sciences, Information Technology, or a related field.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Physical Expectations: 
3 - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds. 

How do you meet the requirements?

1. Proof of Academic Specialty/Declared Major in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field:  
      Acceptable proof includes official or unofficial transcripts or a verification letter which reflect academic specialty. The document must clearly indicate the major or the program that you are currently enrolled.  School admittance letter will NOT be accepted.

2. Proof of Current Enrollment:
       
Acceptable proof includes a current Class Schedule confirming applicant has registered for the current or upcoming semester/quarter, letter from School Administration on school letterhead showing the current enrollment status; a student ID with photograph verifying current enrollment or a copy of the official or unofficial transcripts.  Please note, School admittance letter will NOT be accepted.

All the required document(s) must clearly show the name of school and student's name.

WITHHOLD INFORMATION:

TRANSFER OF TEST COMPONENTS:
 

  • Applicants who have taken identical components recently for other exams may have their scores automatically transferred to this examination.
  •  This examination contains test components that may be used in the future for new examinations and your test scores may be transferred

TESTING ACCOMMODATION:

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
Candidates reporting to meet the minimum requirements will receive an assessment link. Once completed and scored, our office will review your application to verify you’ve met the requirements as stated in the job posting. Only the names of candidates whose qualifications were verified will be shared with the hiring managers. If it is determined that you do not meet the requirements, you may receive a disqualification notice even after you have achieved a passing score on the exam or been placed on the eligibility list. Benefit Information: Depending on the position, the successful candidate will enroll in a contributory defined benefit pension plan if the candidate is a “new member” of the County’s defined benefit plan (LACERA) on or after January 1, 2013 (first employed by the County on or after December 1, 2012) – unless she or he established reciprocity with another public retirement system in which she or he was a member before January 1, 2013. It should be noted that County employees do not pay into Social Security, but do pay the Medical Hospital Insurance Tax portion of Social Security at a rate of 1.45%. The Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA) has reciprocal agreements with several public retirement systems in California.

Employment Eligibility Information: Final appointment is contingent upon verification of U.S. citizenship or the right to work in the United States.
